Live like a local

Journal Student Living began right here in Melbourne and we want to give everyone studying in the city we love the most authentic local experience possible. That’s why every part of Journal is inspired by Melbourne, from the design and gardens to the community life program. Melbourne is your new home, and we can’t wait to share it with you.

Things To Do In Melbourne

There are so many fun things to do in the city of Melbourne for uni students. Your new home has art galleries, live music venues and incredible markets and cafes. Visit some of Melbourne’s world class attractions, including the Yarra River and Lygon Street, all near Journal’s student accommodation in Melbourne.

I stay in a Studio with my own bathroom and kitchen. I have cooked some delicious food since I moved in. It is a good idea to choose a studio if you don’t want to share your kitchen with anyone else. I like the TV in front of my bed because there is nothing better than getting comfy and watching TV.

What I like best about Journal is the atmosphere, it is always welcoming and friendly. It is designed to encourage community building with multiple communal spaces which have an emphasis on group activities.

I currently live in a Six-Bed Ensuite Apartment. Each room has an individual bedroom and a bathroom but we share the living room and kitchen together. It is good to have roommates and talk about uni days when we cook in the common areas together.

I love how conveniently Journal Uni Place is located. We are right outside a tram stop that is within the Free Tram Zone of the city and are only 15 minutes walk from the main campus of the University of Melbourne. Restaurants can be found easily nearby so we don’t have to worry about going hungry.

Anyone could feel at home here. The studio is sleek and modern, I love the warm feel of the room – lots of timber, but with a touch of industrial style. And the fact that there are so many amenities in this building means students save time travelling, leaving more time to study.

Carlton is a very safe suburb with lots of students around, everyone is friendly and there’s so many things to do. You get the best of both worlds – Carlton is a leafy suburb with loads of interesting things going on, and it’s only a 5 minute walk to the CBD so the buzz of the city life close by.

Journal is beautifully designed, the location is perfect, and you get everything you need to set up life as a new student in Melbourne. I think the communal areas would enhance the university experience as they have separate spaces for studying and socialising, making both more enjoyable.

My room is really cozy and I love the pinboard that is part of our study table. It really allows us to personalise our space. The ensuite bathroom is also designed really well to give sufficient space for showering and also storing our necessities.

I like the games area at Journal Uni Place most because I have so many valuable memories there with my friends and it is an absolutely fantastic place for me after a full day of studying.
